Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain ... this is how you remember the colours of the rainbow, red orange yellow green blue indigo violet, just one of the things you have to know to impress little kids, got to get this done early they say, before kindergarten begins with all its peer pressure and generation gap widening

Upthread you mention horseshoes - yes, excellent example of a technology superseded by other tech ... imagine holding shares of some hugely bloated stock promotion based on intellectual property of hoof protection, ho ho, somebody invents the motorcar and your shareholder value goes poof

Whereas the material from which horseshoes were made is still used, bought and profitably sold every day .... so clearly, resources will always win in the end - ashes to ashes, and dust to dust, to everything there is a time, and a season, and It Too Shall Pass

Actually there still are horseshoes, a regular at our local is a farrier and has been for over thirty years since leaving his only other job ever as lead guitar in a wild rock band, he clipped my next door neighbour for a seven hundred loonie bill this spring, and they remain on the best of terms, so it must be a reasonable business ... still, he is not dependent on patents, nor the lawyers to defend patents, he supplies a skill, a service, and a few pounds of material per animal, good solid stuff
