Fay did not weaken over land as anticipated and in fact...it isstronger than it has ever been so far. Initial intensity isconservatively set at 55 knots. This is based on satellite...radarand confirmed by surface observations. This has prompted asignificant change in the intensity forecast. Given that Fay haskept such a well-defined signature on radar and on satellite...thechances that the cyclone becomes a hurricane as it moves overthe Gulf Stream east of Florida have increased. The intensificationis supported by SHIPS...the GFDL and the HWRF models...and isreflected in the official forecast.

It's weird that its intensifying over land.
