he had to call a cab to take him to the emergency room...

I had a friend take me the first trip. They gave me a prescription for vicodin when they released me. Two days later the vicodin fell WAY short and I called an ambulance late at night. I think I passed the stone in the ER before they knocked me out that trip, again taking their sweet time, because the pain abated before they gave me the shot so I assume I passed the stone there. Three days later they flushed out another one, which they captured for analysis.

Your son has my sympathy. Even one bout of them is way too many.
