Lieberman makes his decisions and establishes his positions on the basis of deeply held beliefs and principle

I think he does. He is a man whom I believe would put political considerations below other principles he considers more important. If he is choosing his support of McCain over his lifelong identity as a staunch Democrat, that is a very powerful statement. But the political considerations will still be there. The Senate Democrats will turn on him something fierce.
