Yes, I have had 2 Pakistani clients and they were quite bright, "reasonable", and nice guys. I, too, was impressed with them. These 2 "intellectuals" had the good sense to leave the financial collapse going on in Pakistan.

"A greater problem for Musharraf was a pathology all too common in military regimes, with an added deadly twist in Pakistan. The colonels and generals develop a distrust of, bordering on contempt for, civilian politicians. But politics does not stop, any more than history comes to an end, with a successful coup. The first task of generals, besides eliminating intellectuals, is to remove all actual and potential rivals. That is, the destruction of peaceful political contestation and the suppression of civil society is integral to the logic of military rule."

If we were to see such educated Pakistanis that we know actually return to Pakistan, then yes, I would be more optimistic. P.S. They have not booked their flights back to Karachi yet...
