He somehow shoe-horned his way into the nomination in a year
that should have been owned by the Dems, but lucked out to the fact that the Dems went nuts and opted for form over substance.
This isn't just about luck.
McCain is a fighter. They thought at his age he would just lay down and take it, but clearly, he has more stamina than they gave him credit for.
Americans don't want an extremist liberal as president, and the geniuses in the Democrat party don't get it. They lost the last two elections, and THEY THINK IT IS BECAUSE THEIR CANDIDATES WEREN'T LIBERAL ENOUGH! So, they run a man that makes McGovern look like Wm. F. Buckley Jr.
This was set in motion with the '04 speech by Obama. Everyone knew right then and there what was happening. They thought, "Bush will have dragged the Republican party down, so we can run an ultra-extremist, slick talker in there and they'll buy it."
Well, guess what. Bush isn't as weak as everyone thinks. The war's turned around, and Bush is coming back a bit (and 20 years from now may well start to look like a great president). McCain isn't as weak as they thought he'd be. And they're stuck with an extremist liberal who, in no way, represents the views of 75% of Americans.
