received this from my friend ... her impressions of beijing.
"OK, Haroldo y Rosita, now that I am in Shanghai: A few impressions of Beijing as I leave for Shanghai: there are NO rules of the road, the architecture is stunning, food is pretty good, almost everything is cheap, the people are friendly and helpful, national pride is highly evident, CCTV has many channels a couple of which appear to be devoted solely to jingoism, the Great Wall really is great and a moving experience, English is rare and even my little bit of mandarin came in very handy, I have now heard every noise related to phlegm that is possible, taking a taxi anywhere is almost always an uproarious adventure, being at an Olympic event is a gift of a lifetime even sitting in the worst seats in the house, those beautiful, healthy athletes were observed by my colleagues in a bar partying, drinking and, the surprise part, smoking, when you visit Canada Olympic House you get a box of Tylenol at the door and 10 paces beyond come to a table laid with Immodium and hand sanitizer, I survived going the wrong way on the highway and crossing 8 lanes of traffic on a red light - in a rickshaw, and I would go back in a moment.
