the huge property tax rate is almost all school tax where i live. township is almost nothing. Every penny is carefully watched at town meetings.

School taxes are nuts, we end up with everything in the school but teaching our kids. The system is totally unfair to the average tax payer because it all boils down to income in the community. so the poor communities do not the have tax base for computers , books , teacher salaries that those in higher income can well afford. not a level playing field.. imo schools should be based on state income tax and distributed equally. Those i top income can still afford to send their children to private schools if they are unhappy with public education , at least poorer communities might get more support.
