It is adapting to a new set of circumstances. Game theory: shit your position to gain advantage. Countries, even though far apart can’t avoid Globalization's pull and all of them will move to where the arrow of time is pointing:

Some faster, some slowly. Some with side steps, some two steps ahead and one back, but where they are going to arrive is firmly planted in the ground.

Now if people think: Well, let me make a quick buck. Where? Oh Pakistan! Let me use it as my ATM machine where I put money today and harvest every day henceforth. This is not subsistence agriculture.

The Nigerian beans and how people think invest should be.

The beans although giving little yield, produces for several months. So people will harvest and keep eating it as they need.

Compare with the beans that ripe and is harvested at a single go in developed agriculture.
