This is the worse thing that could happen to the Dems...what are they going to say? You're lying, we really lost?
Well, I'm assuming that as we come out everyone will know it is because we won the war.
But McCain still faces a problem in that Bush has not articulated a reason for our being there, and Obama is going to make this an issue over the coming months -- that is, he's going to claim we should never have gone into Iraq to begin with. McCain has to be able to respond in a way that makes sense to the American People, even though we may have declared victory.
Many Americans believe the war was a mistake, solely because they've been told this by Pelsoi, Reid, and Obama, and nobody has countered that claim.
Bush made a huge mistake by framing the war with the WMD talk. But when the WMD issue wasn't proven out, he should have been aggressive in explaining to the American People that there is an entire laundry list of reasons why we had to do this.
Nobody can argue with some simple facts --
- Saddam would still be in power without the Iraq war;
- Saddam would still be killing 5,000 or more Iraqi people each month;
- There would be no hope of removing Saddam or his dictators-in-waiting sons.
- We would still be locked into monitoring the no-fly zones, dealing with UN corruption in sanctions, and our nation would still be being led around by the nose by this bum, INTO PERPETUITY.
Someone needs to be communicating this to those with short memories. |
