Indonesia tried that during the asian flu; to no avail. There is no way to stop a tidal wave.

Unfortunately the SEC routinely forgets to go after all the wrongdoers at the said companies helms.

I guess, five trillions are too heavy to lift for the sec so they try 5 billions, right?

Suffice to say, the efforts to "ban" short selling financials simply backfired. FNM and FRE made new lows today.

There is an academic paper out which highlights that:

The trading quality (ie executions) worsened.
Those Companies fell faster than its peers; particularly those who issued convertible debt.

I traded all this stuff in said period, long and short, back and forth; and prices seemed to be always anywhere just not where they supposed to be.
