Though yours is a valid concern, I am sure GTE is well aware of this and almost surely will address this concern sooner or later.If dividend is elimated completely or cut drastically lot of Mom & Pop investors would consider taking their money else where, not only that lot of Money Managers will do likewise. I hear European Fund managers do not even consider investing in companies who do not pay dividends.So there is a lot for GTE to worry about in this regard.

Having said that, I don't know whether it's wise to jump the gun and pull they money now from GTE considering it is too early in the game and even if there is a merger it will be quite some time before it all materialises as GTE would have to go through probably a lengthy Regulatory scrutiny and approval process.
