AT&T to name Armstrong to at least one top post -report

NEW YORK, Oct 18 (Reuters) - The AT&T Corp T.N plans to
name C. Michael Armstrong, the head of Hughes Electronics Corp,
for at least one of its two top jobs -- chairman and chief
executive officer -- The New York Times reported on Sunday.
The Times quoted "executives close to the situation" as
saying the announcement would come on Monday. The news was
first reported by CNBC on Friday after the market close.
At Hughes, Michael T. Smith, the current vice chairman,
would replace Armstrong as chairman and chief executive, the
Times said. Smith is the brother of John F. Smith, Jr., the
chairman of and chief executive of General Motors, Hughes'
parent.
