Fred -

SmartMedia doesn't currently use a caddy. That is planned as a future enhancement. There is no way to use a SmartMedia "disk" in a 3.5" floppy drive today.

>>I'd like to hear an arguement as to why anyone thinks this is not a certainty.<<

The reason I'm not certain of it is that there has been no mention of it for quite some time. Also, Iomega's own website doesn't mention it.

Yes, I remember KE saying that n.hand disks would be compatibile with "future versions" of Zip drives using a caddy. I'm sure the original press release is somewhere within this thread.

But from an engineering standpoint, this is not a trivial thing to do. An n.hand disk would have a different spin rate, different track width and different track density from a Zip disk. To make a caddy that will allow the use of that disk within a Zip drive might not be rocket science, but it is by no means simple.

I'll accept it as a certainty when I see an announcement saying that Iomega plans to ship it. I'm not counting the first press release because n.hand has undergone design changes since then.

I do agree that it would be a very good thing if n.hand disks could be read in a Zip drive, and it would hinder their acceptance if they could not.
