Since even the current administration says the financial system needs fundamental regulatory reform in coming years, there are many better options than doing nothing. Ditto energy and immigration and Social Security and healthcare and bridges and our world image and a dozen other things I could reel off, all of which I would rather see fixed than watch collapse around us, sometimes literally. The private sector won't fix those. Social organizations won't fix those. They require government action, which Washington is supposed to deliver. I think we have sunk so deep in our miserable morass that many people simply don't believe anyone can do anything different. That's exactly why we need a change, even if we RISK some bad outcomes on the way to getting most of it right. Your approach is the equivalent of saying the world is so dangerous that we should never leave the house. But most accidents happen in the home, of course, LOL.
