Thanks! I had gone and read up on it a bit and found out that among others, some of the red grapefruit varieties were selected from irradiation of Ruby Red. I had no idea that any commercially useful varieties had been produced that way, as all the plant breeding I follow with interest today never mentions such approaches. I suppose it was popular in the dawn of the atomic age...
