I would use the term "disaster" for a continually weakening dollar with concommitant inflation; erosion of our bridges, dams, roads, sewers, and water systems without the will or means to fix them as the cost grows with each year; gradual climate change that leads to flooding in some places, drought in others, wildfires in many, and saline contamination of coastal aquifers; depletion of inland aquifers and an ever lower water table.
That enough for you? I could go on. I haven't even touched the trade deficit and current account balance, the burgeoning debt, energy independence, the medical and education systems, the hidden dangers of financial derivatives (to "offset risk," lol) that could make the current banking crisis look like child's play, the loss of jobs to the far east....
yeah, good idea, let's do nothing. Let's all close our eyes, ignore reality until we have a rock solid plan that will account for everything that could go wrong (as if that's possible) and march onward. After all, apres nous, l'deluge. |
