What is your view of the Year 2000 Problem?

There are many knowledgable and thoughtful people in this thread and I would appreciate the input of one and all. The y2k problem has the potential to impact semis/equip in many ways.

One scenario has resources being diverted to y2k. Perhaps less hardware will be bought and money will flow to software and consulting. Who will benefit and who will suffer?

Another scenario has more money being spent on both hardware and software as if in some giant upgrade cycle the likes of which will never be seen again.

Edward Yardeni, Ph.D., (Top 5 economist, IMO) predicts the disruptions to the worldwide economy caused by y2k will likely (33% probability) cause the next recession.

This could be the new paradign "cause" which "cannot be forseen" and leads to a bear market.
