Most environmental pollution is caused by heavy concentrations of population in urban areas. Wall to wall cement parking lots, elimination of green spaces, noise pollution, over development and chemical spewing industries tend to destroy the quality of life in those areas. Yes, it's convenient for businesses to have their workforce and supply lines at their doorstep, but do the environmental negatives outweigh the financial savings?

What's needed is smart growth for all regions of the USA. Think of the collapse of the housing industry as a plus for the environment. That industry was gobbling up pristine farmland for at least a decade in order to build sprawling developments. Thankfully the mortgage meltdown has provided a sorely needed pause.

Out of control land development is causing problems in Europe as well. Recently the BBC reported on water shortages in a region of Spain located close to Africa. Over development of resort areas was pin pointed as one of the causes.

I agree with you that mankind can abuse the environment, but I also agree with those scientists who disagree with Gore's assertion that humans are capable of raising the earth's temp to a destructive level.

>As mankind continues to dump hundreds of tons of sewerage and chemicals and waste into our oceans and streams, and tons of harmful gases and chemicals into our air; and continues deforesting this planet, it can't be good for either the planet or for the living beings on this planet.<
