Paul, Thank you for the informative response.

You are of course right about the franchise with existing and new x86 software. I soppose that it would be very difficult for a competitor to come out with a new, faster technology (archetecture) that would be backwards compatable to existing applications software.

Still, it seems there are limits to Intels ability to continue with it's past business model of producing faster and faster x86 chips every six months or so. They have to venture into manufacturing other computer components and develope new computer uses/applications, which isn't a traditional Intel "core competency". It will be interesting to measure their success over the next couple of years.

Thanks again for your response, it's hard to find good answers to questions that are both tech and market based.
