Well, while I'm a Wine Century Club member, I'm also a Zinophile and living near to Sonoma and the Russian River, where they sell a lot of futures, makes it easier...
But, my favorite winery across the board is Swan. I am getting Zin and Syrah futures there for just under $20 a bottle and I think just about any Zin Rod makes is in the upper echelons of Zindom ... better even than Ridge. His Cuvee de Trois Pinot is superb and a little over $30 and the Estate Pinot ... which doesn't quite make the bracket, but not by much, is good enough that he is asked to trade, case for case, by big names in Burgundy whose wines sell for hundreds a bottle. And, his Mourvedre is to die for ... but almost impossible to get.
My favorite Champagne is the Dom, but a close second is the Late Disgorged from Iron Horse. It is probably a smidge over the bracket too, but it placed first in a tasting of French champagnes costing $150-450.
Zin again, but just about anything by Carol Shelton.
One has to be in the wine club to keep it in bracket, but the St. Francis Pagani Ranch Zin is right there at the peak as well.
Not every Zin, but many, from Sapphire Hill deserve to be in the group too.
Guy Davis of Davis Family is gifted ... anything he makes.
