****way OT****

Don't forget the liars and gays. The current GOP is full of them.

Actually, now that I think about it, gays in the Republican party makes a lot of sense. The party is religious and the catholic church is riddled with gays and child molesters, that the church both protected and allowed to be exposed to their parishoner's children.

Your somewhat bizarre post reveals a lot about you. I always forget how many seemingly intelligent people out there still tend to associate being gay with being a pedophile, but being gay with being a Republican? Surely the Log Cabin association is smaller and far less vocal than it's Democratic counterpart. Although, I would imagine that most that consider themselves Libertarians do vote Republican and freedom of sexual orientation would fall solidly under Libertarian ideals. Most of the Gay and Lesbian people I know are very vocal Democrats.

That oddness aside, the Catholic part got me wondering about how many Catholics are in Congress and what their political affiliation was. The Catholics I know are overwhelmingly Democrats (voting against the Catholic Church stance of Pro Life or just choosing to ignore that conflict altogether).

The 109th Congress had 29 percent Catholics, the largest faith group in Congress (followed by Baptist). The majority of the Senators that were Catholic were Democrats, in the House it was 68 to 72, Republicans to Democrats but the 110th Congressional elections changed the balance significantly in that 29% of the new members are Catholic and every single Catholic elected or appointed (23 total) is a Democrat. Obama picked a Catholic running mate.
