I disagree of course but even if I gave you the premise, we would have to qualify what 'matters'. The problem is a lie always matters, or should I say lies smatter. It's the smattering which opens the door to a breach of trust in general and generally speaking public service is no more than the lending of a trust; Whereas, allowing any corruption to contaminate that trust disqualifies the individual... influence peddling, deficient character, avarice, extortion, embezzlement, bribery, and blackmail for example ... each of which, robs the people of power in a democratic society.
