If you are going to include lieing in the category of evil or at least wrong doing, which we do regularly on this thread, then you must set the parameters clearly, which I have done for the sake of this discussion.

To be considered wrong a lie must be an utterance or action intended to deceive those who've lent you their trust.

In the case of an opponent in war or competition, there is no presumption of such trust, as the premise exists outright that you are trying to gain an advantage by outwitting them using various forms of strategy. Deception in a magic show is not considered wrong or evil since it is understood a priori that clever smoke, mirror, magnetism, slight of hand and other forms of trickery are used to create the illusion of supernatural phenomenon.

If you choose to mingle the concepts then the notion of honesty has no practical application.
