Ann:
Why do you support Obama's socialist plans? The US capitalist system lifted multi millions of once poverty stricken immigrants into the middle class. Why do you and Obama want to replace that successful structure with an already failed model?

koan: with all due respect you are not using the words socialism and capitalism in their proper context. Welfare state best describes all capialist nations.

Almost every country on earth is a mixture of capitalism and socialism. Eisenhower, was responsible for the interstate highway system. That was a totally socialistic endeavor as are all roads, bridges, water systems, sewer sytems, army, navy, and airforce. We also aid farmers (socialism) and even capitalistic Wall street.

The feds have and are in the process of bailing out tons of banks (socialism), to the tune of over a trillion dollars. A pure capitalist system would have let them fail. The Bush administration regularly gave billions to the oil companies in subsidies (socialism).

The trick is to get the right mix of capitalism and socialism which is called a welfare state.

FDR's New Deal created the largest middle class the US ever saw and saved millions of lives during the great depression. That is why people voted him in four times.

The great depression was causing millions of people to literally starve. Hoover was advised to let the great depression run as it would get rid of the "dead wood".

FDR came in, in 1932, and told his top adviser on the first day: I want you to go out and find out what the peopel need---today!

But it still took several years before FDR adopted Keynes ideas which finally started to pull the US out of the great depression.

Democracy and capitalism are complicated. Obama understands complex ideas. Bush and mcCain not so much-lol.
