You bring up a good point. I think this is a real threat to cheap PC's. Even at work, those who need less power simply inherit the lold machines of the power users when they upgrade. In our household it works the same way. My wife and son get my old machine when I get a new one. Indeed, having someone to give your old machine to is one less barrier to upgrading. I think the trend that Michael's article points out could be a real problem for cheap PC's. If these really are mostly second machines (as opposed to previously thought 1st time buyers) then I can see a time come where most of the demand of the second machines are met by hand-me-downs.
