Cary and Sam, My question is, "How can the semi companies (intel, mot, txn, etc) going to stay in front of the curve and profitability if they do not buy the equipment(300 wafer/ 0.25 and lower) which makes their firms more prrofitable?" Another question is, "How much lag time is there from the time a semi company orders their needed equipment until they are up to speed and producing profitable 0.25 semi's from the 300 (12") wafer? How long will it be before we see the 16" wafer and below 0.10 semi's? Are there any projections in what we can expect by the year 2000? What impact will these questions have on AMAT and our profitability?

Foods for thought. Any responses?
