Well, I think it was a blunder by the Republicans. Strategically, a pick that would complement McCain's experience - say, a Joe Lieberman - would have made a great case that both were ready from day one. By selecting someone SO unknown and inexperienced, he turned his most effective attack AGAINST him. All the Republican messaging that Obama is not ready now creeps into the back of people's minds when they look at...what's her name?...oh, yeah, Palin.

Maybe this was a play for Hillary's voters, but the DNC pretty much shut that door. Any Hillary voters who aren't behind Obama now would probably never have supported Obama, so there was no need to pander to that crowd.
