KT,
This was a great pick by McCain. The only way he could have done better was by picking Bobby Jindal.
She's young, attractive, strong, popular, up and coming, loves free markets, made budget cuts in Alaska that contributed to surpluses that she supposedly saved for the state for a rainy day, took on a few people in her own party, didn't abort a child she knew had Down Syndrome, has a son on his way to Iraq, likes sports, hunting, fishing, and guns etc...
She obviously believes what she says.
She's exactly what conservatives wanted on the top of the ticket.
The lack of foreign policy experience will be a non factor unless McCain dies early in his term. By the end of the second year of the term she'll have more foreign policy experience than Obama has now based on his limited experience using the Senate as a platform for running for the presidency. She already has more executive experience than he does.
This pick is very likely to re-energize those republicans that don't like McCain (virtually all conservatives) and be very acceptable to moderates.
Whether it is enough to win is another question.
I think it also proves what I've been saying all along. Conservatives don't hate Hillary and Pelosi because they hate strong women etc... They hate their ideas. |
