Absolutely true, but with someone as old as McCain the VP choice is more important.

Plus, we could get another Paulson or some other similar abomination at Treasury.

On balance, I'd rather see a strong ticket that can stand alone on its own merits.

I don't buy the argument that the faults of the nominees can be painted over with a good Cabinet because we don't know in advance who will fill the Cabinet seats. Also, I'd rather see the nominees themselves be well-grounded.

Taken to an extreme, the argument can lead to the suggestion that any idiot can be elected because his Cabinet is bound to be competent or at least better.

So far, Biden and McCain are qualified with respect to foreign policy and national defense. That's pretty much it.
