Polls next week will be very interesting. If McCain gets an "unbump" from the Palin choice, it will be telling. If the polls stay the same, not much to take away from that. But if he gets a bump then it was a decent choice short term. And we'll have to wait and see what happens when she starts opening her mouth- either on the stump, or in debates. I can't imagine why he wanted to shoot himself in the foot WRT the inexperience issue- but he did. Even though some on the far right seem to see Palin as "experienced" I don't think anyone else will.
