What, you don't trust the barbarians? ... see, there will always be trust issues, from one side or the other, and often from both ... has to be hard to counterfeit, otherwise people won't, um, trust it

Fuel - the other day i roughly calculated that i'd put about 14,000 gallons of diesel fuel into my pickup since March of 1985, that's about 17,500 US gallons or near 70,000 litres ... 440,000 clics on the thing, gets just over 20 mpg, which is not bad, there are many far worse
A few months ago, using a cube root calculator found on the net, i estimated the size of cubic container it would take to supply the planet with petroleum for one day, it was a cube about 750 feet on a side ... 82,000,000 barrels, times 35 gal/bbl, times 4.4 or something to get litres ... it would look quite impressive, a container like that, and you'd have a hard time getting it permitted in most towns - we burn that up every twenty-four hours, keeping it full would be a neat trick ... can't go on like that, got to get smarter, i agree absolutely
We'll need more copper to get smarter, because we'll need to move more electricity around ... we'll need more rare earths probably, they come in handy for new-fangled batteries and motors and things ... we'll need more nickel, vanadium, cobalt etc for fancy alloys that do special jobs ... we'll need more zinc, so that the steel stuff we make doesn't rot so fast - waste nowt want nowt, a stitch in time saves nine, use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without ... and of course, we'll need more gold and silver to pay for all this if we're putting off the expenditures till after the fiat falls apart ... i'm actually not that big on physical compared to many others, much prefer mining and exploration stocks, but in the last few days, since they're particularly cheap now, i've tucked away a few more of both of these, at spot [or very close to spot in the case of sovereigns] -
