Doesn't surprise me in the least that Zipcar is not yet profitable. What does surprise me is that government is not doing more to encourage/subsidize it, as it does for most other transport infrastructure. I doubt that Velib, France's successful bike sharing project, is profitable either, in spite of its advertising sales. [Perhaps ads are something Zipcar might adopt to improve revenues.] How many successful public or private transportation services are profitable, I wonder?
