What's such BS about the Russian position is that we've been trying for years to form a cooperative agreement with Moscow to create a mutual missile defense network.

The U.S. is willing to explore cooperation with Russia across the full spectrum of missile defense activities. U.S. Government officials have discussed U.S. missile defense plans and offered to cooperate jointly since 2001. These discussions have been transparent and conducted at all levels, including between the two Presidents, as well as at the NATO-Russia Council (NRC).

So when the Russians target OFFENSIVE missiles against countries like Poland, who only want DEFENSIVE missiles, there can only be one message to be received from Moscow; a message of intimidation and potential aggression.

And the eventual response will be that some neighboring countries will desire offensive missiles being stationed in order to guarantee that any attack upon them will receive a retaliatory response. This will only lead to the fulfillment of Moscow's pubicly stated fear, offensive weapons on their borders..

But then again, maybe too many of these Cold Warriors are longing for a return to the simpler days of "Us vs Them" where everyone was your enemy.

I'm just waiting for Moscow's next likely move against Ukraine and the Crimea (where their Black Sea fleet is located). Lots of ethnic Russians who live there, but they are outnumbered by the 77% of the population who are ethnic Ukrainian:

And as the Germans ignored to their detriment in WWII, there is serious resentment of Russians on the part of the Ukrainians. They just plain don't like them.
