KT,

The only way to get premiums (and medicare spending) to drop is to insure less things. That couldn't be more obvious.

6 weeks ago I started hearing a little ringing in my ears. It was a minor annoyance, but nothing significant because 95% of the time I'm not even aware of it.

I went to the doctor. He didn't see any wax or an infection. So he sent me to an ENT. The ENT did 3 costly tests and found nothing. So now I am going for an MRI and Doplar. It's almost comical how much all this shit is going to cost. If it were up to me and out of my pocket, I would have stopped at the first doctor unless the condition worsened. But heck, it's not going to cost me anything above my $15 co-payment so why not err on the side of caution and perhaps fix it.

Years ago, you just lived with this shit.

Now everyone thinks they are entitled to everything.

There is no shortage of companies and doctors willing to find new fangled and even more expensive ways to provide healthcare as long as someone is willing to pay for it.

Insurance companies don't care because they are simply pass through mechanisms.

Government doesn't care because the dirt bags in power have no problem making more and more promises we can't afford and that probably don't make any sense to begin with just to get elected.

I don't care because for $15 the most logical and economic thing to do is to get the tests.

Stop insuring as much and everything changes. Perhaps the quality of healthcare would take a small hit, but we would get much better value for the dollar and be forced to live within our means.
