I agree, all the more reason it was highly injudicious for a woman of 43 with four children to even attempt a fifth pregnancy. That's why most intelligent, middle-class women in their 40s, certainly those I'm aware of, have an amniocentesis done early in their pregnancy, clearly with a view to termination, because there numerous other birth defects which can also occur. But such women invariably do not have four children, they are usually women who get married late and have one or two pregnancies.

Frankly, if it is Palin's child and not her grandchild I think, as a mother, she's a heartless woman to bring such a child into the world knowing full well her time will be spent in politics and she will therefore not be able to devote the necessary care and attention to the affected child.
