then forget to teach sex education to her own daughter

You are making a pretty big assumption that the kid didn't have any sex education. I've been to more than one wedding where the young bride had to take a break during the reception to change the kid and in every case there wasn't a lack of education or limited access to birth control. Sex education and birth control is readily available to teenagers in Baltimore City schools yet the rate of teenage pregnancy is still trending up and the trend shows little sign of slowing.

Teenage pregnancy and children born to unwed mothers has been on a steady uptrend in both Europe and the US since the late sixties. This uptrend in unwed births parallels the greatest advance in birth control in the modern era as well as widespread legal access to abortion.

You are a doctor, or do you just play one on TV? I think you know that no form of birth control is 100% effective (refer to the fine print) and even non-religious sexually active teenage women, who use birth control, do a lot of "praying" when their period is a few days overdue.

I think also you'll find that in a majority of cases of teenage pregnancy the pregnancy wasn't entirely unwanted. The race might have died out long ago if women were entirely logical about the decision to procreate.

It would also be a mistake to think that conservative Christian mothers do not educate their daughters about sex or make offers to provide birth control. I made that mistake with my Evangelical nieces and I have to tell you I had to endure a lot of rolling of eyes and withering teenage scorn when I attempted to fill in parts of their education that I wrongly assumed were missing. It pointed up just how ignorant I was about conservative Christian families and how they deal with their children's educations.

One thing I have to say is had that kid gotten pregnant in some other political family in the midst of seeking national office, I have to say that she would have been under tremendous family pressure to quietly abort the pregnancy, she'd probably not have been given much "choice" to have that baby. It says a lot about Palin, that she'd put her own political ambitions second to the decision of her teenage daughter to keep the pregnancy.

If Democrats really want to lose the support of women, they can continue to attack this woman over this issue. I think they will discover that a large number of their core supporters have been in similar straits, either the pregnant daughter or the mother with the pregnant daughter.
