I think you might be right on this one. She withdraws for family reasons and mccain takes his real first choice Joementum or Tom Ridge or Mitt.

This would be suicide for the McCain ticket and simply would not happen -- he would ride out the choice unless something significant appeared, and nothing that has been suggested by you lefties has even remotely hinted at significance.

If he ditched her, even *I* would vote for Obama.
