Hi Everybody,

Early this year we discussed about the eventual appearance of the $500 computer that will result in households having multiple computers as they have multiple TVs and Video recorders now. I told this thread then that for the NC (Network computer) or "Dumb Terminal" to be competitive--- must be priced at $200 not $500 as originally planned. The $500 computer is now selling so well that it is projected to be a Best Seller come Christmas time...On top of that, I read in todays San Jose Mercury News that RCA is about to sell the NC computer at---you guess it right---$199!...WOW!...

With these kinds of reports---cheaper computers, cheaper Chips---many of us are scared. We are thinking of BloodBaths scattering to all sectors of the Hi-Tech arena that may cause Deaths of companies...Years ago, there are no CPQs and DELLS but the IBMs, AAPLs, CBUs and ATARIs. There was a severe shakeout in the computer arena that benefited the Software makers like MSFT, Chip Makers like INTC, AMD and MOT; and the other beneficiary:---none other than AMAT!...Combatants come and go, the winners survive, the losers die, but---the makers of weapons are always there!...

People ask:---How can computer makers survive by selling $500 computers? It is like asking how can the makers of cheap TVs, Video recorders who keep on producing and selling are going to keep on surviving...
