America was going to go down the crapper one way or the other, relatively speaking. America won History's Lottery with WWII victory, homeland unscathed while rest of major developed countries devastated. after considerable period of relative outperformance, it was inevitable that other countries would start to catch up, and surpass us in many ways.
while avg standard of living in US is still quite high compared to most of the world and to history, relative performance is starting to drop. this leads to incessant whining, like all those speeches at Democratic convention. OK, Dems, you will have your chance. Obama is a shoo-in this time around. let's see if he fixes the incorrigible problems, like secular decline in real wages.
Obama can't work miracles. American standard of living will decline under his reign. but, at least he will get us out of Iraq which will make people happy and save our confetti--er, money--for some more homespun socialist good works. better to help people here as long as the world still believes in USD. it won't last forever, so best to steal foreign central banks' money while we can. |
