Deciding which way the market will whipsaw tomorrow
I tried that for while.. turned out to be a zero sum game and that was probably a lucky outcome.. Can't watch the market constantly as I still have a day job of sorts..

I recently built up positions in Canadian large cap financials mostly with yield and some large caps in the US (no US financials though) like Novartis ADR and JNJ .. I did make a ST bet by upping the Canadian banks going into bank reporting last week.. MFC already had reported and upped the divvy so I felt relatively confident. Also considering Toyota and Diageo in the US. (I think the USD trends higher for a while yet wrt the loonie since USD has gained more against the Euro it appears) The Canadian financials I let go today could be considered trading around a core.. I was getting antsi as I got below 60% cash and I am a chicken poop in this market.. I have almost expunged the word 'hope' from my investing and trading ... been there done that.. :O)

Rogers.. Ted is the man :O) They have cash flow.. The iPhone and Blackberry so it's a steadier play than RIM or Apple IMO. Pays a decent yield at this level. We (household) have three cell phones with rival Bell. One contract is up and two expire in spring. I will be moving to Rogers or Fido (owned by Rogers).. The Rogers service (signal) is simply superior to Bell by a wide margin.. Their fewest dropped calls advertisement is not BS.. Rogers has GSM ... Almost appears to be GSM vs CDMA (Bell/Telus) is shaping up to be like VHS vs Betamax (loose analogy).. I think Rogers has decent growth on its side yet.. and is a bit beaten down hereBell for one is going to spin wheels for a while going private...

I still make a lot of decisions though based on USD/Loonie rate since 95% of my PF is tax sheltered and I take a 1% forex hit on each USD buy and sell... and many foreign opportunities are only available to me via US ADRS... That will change in the next few years in my case... but still a strong consideration unfortunately...

I had over 50% of my portfolio split between KCL.TO and FOS.V and prior to that I was even more recklessly split between CLL.TO and PBG.TO.. so I know how it feels :O)
