MW,

Glad you liked the post. Sometimes negating the logic of a situation makes it that much clearer (and sillier). Programmers do this all the time (for simplicity, not silliness!).

As far as movies and reading go, I do attend a few films, but they usually involve exploding spaceships. I read as much as I can, but almost entirely nonfiction. I'd love to read more fiction, but just don't have the time (I tell myself).

In regard to the "Peacemaker" plug, I agree with James Berg -- probably (almost certainly) a paid placement. The book reference you mentioned is probably an attempt to inject the feel for a certain period, e.g., circa 1994. I imagine one could scour the American literature from the early 1900's and find several references to the "Stanley Steamer", an early, now-defunct, steam-powered automobile. Of course this is not to say that AOL will disappear completely, or is steam-powered, but they do seem to produce a lot of hot air. -ggg-.
