Robert, thanks for the welcome. This is a good hardcore SI thread and the stock is pretty interesting as well.
I don't disagree that there are many stocks that are overvalued in this market. However, there are also a number of industries that are already trading as if a recession in the next year is a forgone conclusion, check out GM Ford and LTV Steel. I just don't see the conditions for a cataclysmic market correcton. A 10-20% correction might be healthy and altough it would hurt in the short term we would see some excellent buying opportunities.
I wasn't trading stocks in the early 70s but I am a student of history and those were vastly different times. When I was in college we studied the emerging phenomonim of stagflation-(a low growth economy with inflation). Today we have strong GNP growth and little perceptible inflation. In the early to mid 70s the Japanese economy was the most admired in the world and the US seemed lost. Today the japanese are lost in the labarynth of thier Fuedal trading system, Europe is facing its semi socialist economies and its failure to embrace technology and the US ecomomy is the envy of the word. Can things change, you can count on it. I just don't see it yet.
I'm usually not this philisophical. Lets see what happens tomorrow. I'm looking forward to participating and learning more about XOMA.
