Palin mocks Obama, wins over the party completely

Commentary: Acceptance speech shows why McCain picked her

ST. PAUL, Minn. (MarketWatch) -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin delivered a withering indictment of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama in her national debut at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday.
Palin showed that, despite her lack of national exposure and the abuse she's suffered this past week, she can dish it out.
In her acceptance of the vice presidential nomination, Palin weaved in the story of her ordinary but nevertheless remarkable life, praise for the honor and service of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, and ridicule of the pretentions of Barack Obama.
The delegates at the convention left knowing that McCain had chosen the right person to stand by his side in this election.
With her folksy manner and biting invective, Palin won over the party completely.
She was most effective when she mocked Obama's seriousness, saying that she came from a small town, where "we don't quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren't listening."
Some of her attacks on Obama were misleading or unfair, but it didn't matter on this night. What will be remembered most are the stinging jabs at Obama, the references to the "Styrofoam Greek columns," the "cloud of rhetoric" and the distinction between "a gifted speaker" who can inspire with words and a man like McCain who inspires with his deeds.
With Palin on the Republican ticket, the Democrats have a real fight on their hands now.
