Saddam was a secularist... a fighter of the "violent islam" you talk about in the next paragraph. An enemy of Iran, which could be the only real serious threat in the ME.

Saddam started out as a secularist but has been tilting over to being an islamist. True, not in the form of Wahabi or Shia equivalent.

True, he somewhat neutralized Iran, but Iraq is equally (or much more so) safe from Iranian military invasion now, with security guarantee from the US.

Totally wrong. It's hard to argue against something so totally fictional.
