ah thanks for the input. At this point all laptop mfg is contracted with CMs, and if you do that you really can't BTO. I think Rollins also listened to MacKenzie and offshored a ton of stuff away, losing all kinds of IP. That turned out to be a disaster for everybody but very naive on the part of the executives that fell for it (Steve jobs was one that didn't). Intel opened a huge R&D facility in Bangalore where they obviously thought all the execs (who were still HERE) would just sit it out and wait for the great products to come rolling in with no involvement from the top. Dell did that too, well, if Dell is going to offshore the core competancy away what do they have left- nothing. Now that the dollar has collapsed a lot of companies are needing to bring those jobs back in house and we have something of a rental housing shortage out here in the bay area again. this is interesting boston.com
