Politically I think Obama and Hillary are close. I can't say that I really hate either of them, but I probably dislike Hillary a bit more.

I don't think either of them are Stalin. Maybe some narrow aspects might be similar but there isn't much point dwelling on those narrow aspects because the big picture is VERY different.

The worst that might be said of them in this context might be that they would be a small step in that direction, but only a small step on a very long journey. When similar comparisons are made about conservatives I like to say that a sense of perspective is important. Its also important here. However much one candidate (or to a certain degree all the candidates) might have something to dislike about them, or might have policies that I strongly disagree with, none of them are going to open the Gulag, or decide the price of everything through central planning.

Out of all the current candidates (and I'll throw in Hillary, because I've been talking about her), I like Palin the most, yes more than McCain. OTOH there is a chance that I like her more than McCain only because I don't know her as well.

I might like Obama more than Biden or Hillary, but I'm still pretty far from actually liking him.
