Hi Ferris. A little short on time as my work week is over. TGIF!<g> But do have a few thoughts.

First, the tone of his article on the shortage discussion comes across as laconic. Like someone without much interest in the issue. That attitude can be useful as the basis for a greater degree of objectivity than we'd C from someone strongly committed to one view or the other.

OTOH, such lack of verve also lower ones motivation. And it's all to easy to walk away from the work before digging deep enough to uncover less than obvious factors which could be important.

In some cases, even obvious and important facts R overlooked.

The most important one that jumps off the page at me is his discussion of the entities that manufacture and mint gold coins. As private biz they will be motivated by the profit motive to produce, etc., etc. This is true.

Problem is? Most of the popular bullion coins R minted by governments, not private entities. That blows most of his analysis out of the box because he's tied it to the false premise that we're dealing entirely with private businesses.
Governments have entirely different motivations. And I think we've discussed some of that on the thread in recent weeks.

Will have to pick up on this Monday, if you want. Time to unplug n get some R&R.<g>

Glad you like NRS. Lots of good posters here. I've learned a lot from them.

Cheers,

Iso
