I know that now. At least one version of the letter is genuine. sounded too weird at first. I looked her up and thought why not dial her number. So I just did. She answered. Jeez, what a long-winded woman - I got the impression she'd talk all day. She has got 12900 hits on google - I had to look her up to tell her that - she has dialup and mostly uses the net for email - says she's got 2500 emails or some number like that. Stayed up recently till 3AM talking to people who call her. She sounds enthused by the attention and is willing to devote all her waking hours to stoking it.

I am no reporter but here is what I learned. I said the letter sounded like someone who didn't like Sarah and wanted her and McCain to lose. She said she "likes" Sarah, and everyone there does. I asked who she is for in the coming eleciton. She was cagey and wouldn't come right out and say it. She did she was a "social liberal" - "for gun control, against the death penalty", etc etc. (if you want to call her, she'll elaborate as much as you want) and disagrees with Sarah on "every social issue". So she is going to be voting for the other party, obviously.

I read this from the letter going round and she verified she wrote it:

"They call her “Sarah Barracuda” because of her unbridled ambition and predatory ruthlessness. "

Yes, she said I wrote that. It was based on something her father said about her behavior on the court. I said it sounded like a criticism of her character by someone who didn't like her. Oh, she said, I see. I said was the nickname about how she acted on the court? Yes, she said. So its not a nickname based on her general character. She said she could see how it could sound like that. I just rolled my eyes.

All right. My conclusion: Anne Kilkenny is a very liberal woman and this is her chance to take a potshot at the biggest local conservative. What you have is a highly prejudical account by a politically motivated local trying hard to cast every comment in as negative light as possible.

The letter is geniune - at least the version in the Anchorage Daily News - she has that URL by her phone and will read it off to anyone who calls. As to whether the material in it means much, I wouldn't place much confidance in it. The lady is a crank. The stuff in the letter is apparently gossip from the local community of liberals cast in as dark language as possible.
