Palin's choice, I feel, was to make inroads into the Republican base. She is not the one that would be appealing to Independents/moderates. Furthermore, Palin's choice was also to capture Hillary voters. It has already misfired.

Palin is a candidate with a contradictory past. McCain's decision making skills are reflected in the choice of such a candidate.
